How can European institutes in occupational safety and health respond to future needs?

by Bieneck H-J, Elsler D, Kuhn K-L

The changing world of work is bringing new challenges for companies and employees to protect health, to improve the well-being of the workforce, and, as a result, to increase economic performance in Europe. Evidence-based strategies and methods to cope with new, more complex and changing demands require an increased capacity for research of the highest quality. Therefore, the leading European research institutes in the field of occupational safety and health founded the Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health (PEROSH). PEROSH creates added value by strengthening and coordinating European research in occupational safety and health through collaboration in projects, the sharing of results, and the pooling of experts. While work-related questions are on the rise and are becoming increasingly complex, human and financial resources and expertise for problem solving remain limited or are even in decline in some countries. Concentrating efforts is the only adequate strategy for overcoming these limitations.
